Democrats Self-Sabotaged by Ending Government Shutdown

Republicans Still Lost with Tone Deaf Cruelty and Lavish Parties

The government shutdown was a tale of two banks—one where Trump withdrew copious funds to pay for his golden toilets, marble bathroom and obscene Gilded Age castle parties. The second was food banks where poor, humiliated Americans lined up in anticipation of MAGA yanking their food stamps (SNAP). While the Democrats caved, the Republicans lost the shutdown because they looked like cavemen who celebrated human suffering.

Each actor in stand-off performed to archetype. The calamity was precipitated by Office of Management and Budget Director Russell Vought, a key leader of Project 2025. He fancies himself Super Christian, while snatching away food stamps and exploiting the crisis to fire thousands of government workers, just in time for the holiday season.

MAGA has done more damage to the reputation of conservative Christianity than 1,000 Christopher Hitchens and Richard Dawkins ever could. When states tried to fill the void to provide food aid for 42 million Americans, Trump’s Department of Agriculture threatened the states with hefty fines.

Obviously, the only religion these creeps adhere to is money and power. During the shutdown, Pennsylvania’s Democratic governor, Josh Shapiro, called out the ever-pious, and erstwhile hillbilly, JD Vance as a “total phony”.

“JD Vance rose to some prominence by writing a book about growing up in Appalachia, where there are a whole lot of people who get SNAP,” Shapiro lectured. “He made millions of dollars on the backs of telling their stories. And then he turned his damn back on those very people.”

The shutdown imbroglio was over Republican refusal to extend Obamacare subsidies for another year, even though doing so is supported by almost ¾ of the American people. The result of their wanton vindictiveness is that people with health insurance today will not be able to visit a doctor when they are sick tomorrow. Economist Paul Krugman put it in perspective:

The health insurance crisis is happening right now, as Americans open letters from their insurers and discover that they are facing huge increases — more than 100 percent on average, much more in many cases — in the cost of coverage beginning in just a few weeks.

I’d like to say that Americans are becoming wise to Republican greed and malice—but if they had any wisdom, in the first place, they would not have reelected a con artist who orchestrated a violent coup to overthrow democracy. Trump first tried to wreck New York City, before defiling Atlantic City, and now he is taking a wrecking ball to America, starting with the East Wing of the White House.

Will Americans literally have to live among ruins before they finally figure out that MAGA is ruining our country?
